October 1944 - Catastrophically weakened by the Battle of the Phillippine Sea that summer, the Japanese navy throws its remaining ships into a last-ditch effort to thwart the American invasion of the Phillippines.

Although the Japanese forces were outnumbered nearly 5 to 1, taking heavy losses and and ultimately loosing the battle, they managed to sink six U.S. warships:

• One light aircraft carrier: USS Princeton
• Two escort carriers: USS Gambier Bay and USS St. Lo
• Two destroyers: USS Hoel and USS Johnston
• One destroyer escort: USS Samuel B. Roberts

The Battle of Letye Gulf spelled the end of the Imperial Japanese fleet and laid the groundwork for their ultimate defeat. Will you fare any better?
